Mass Effect has been rated M for Mature from the ESRB.
We have always said that Mass Effect was going to be either a mature or possibly teen title and we can now go ahead and confirm that it is indeed a mature game. Mass Effect was rated Mature for violence, blood and gore, some partial nudity and some sexual themes.
- Why is this an Xbox 360 game and not on [insert your favourite platform here]?
-
Bob McCabe:
We chose 360 because we have a really great relationship with Microsoft and find that they're constantly pushing us to develop the best products we're capable of.
They're very supportive and really seem to care more about the final product than the dollars. I know they're a business (like us) and want to make money, but they seem willing to push a lot of that aside, at least in their dealings with us, to help us put out our vision of the game. It's really a great situation.
Plus, we've worked with them before and have built up a nice rapport.
And then there's the fact that they've kept us up-to-date with their vision for the 360 since the beginning, and they've supplied us with alpha versions and beta versions of their console along the way. It's really helped us learn the intricacies of the unit, and feel ready to bring our game to their system.

Bob McCabe:
We picked Xbox 360 because we have past, positive history with Microsoft (I mentioned this in another thread) and their console is fine for developing the kind of game that we want to develop. Maybe the 360 can do 14 terror-flips and maybe Sony can say gig-a-what 18 times in 22 seconds. Either way, I'm sure they've both got really nice personalities and can get a date for this weekend.
- Will Mass Effect be coming to the PC?
-
Chris Priestly:
As we've said before, Mass Effect is planned as an Xbox 360 exclusive title. This means we are not working on a PC version and have no plans to start making one.
It is possible that one could be made in teh future, but it would certainly be a wait of a number of years before we even start to make one, let alone actually release such a thing.
I'm not saying that waiting is 100% a bad idea. I never thought we would make a PC version of Jade Empire, but now we are. But if you want to wait multiple years just to find out that we are not making one, then it's up to you.
Personally, I don't own a 360 either. But I take a look at Mass Effect which is already 3 games that I want to own (the original, plus our announced 2 sequels), I look at the content that'll be available for ME through Xbox Live, and I look at the other titles on the 360 that I'd liek to play (even though I'm a PC RPG geek, I do play a few sports games which I find work better on platforms), and I'm going to buy one.
Whether you get one or not, it should be a careful decision for you, or for anyone. We have a number of staff here at the office with old "next big thing" consoles they bought for only 1 or 2 games gathering dust. Look at the titles available, look at your finances and see what the right choice is for you.
- Is Mass Effect a single-player only game?
-
Jarrett Lee:
Actually, the decision has not been 100% finalized as to whether Mass Effect will be single-player-only or not. It remains to be determined.
